The Department of Energy has a great resource on the locations of Alternative Fueling Stations.  Not only do they list EV Charging Stations, also known as Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), they also have locations of biodiesel, CNG, ethanol, hydrogen, LNG, and propane fuel sources (Alternative Fueling Station Locator – http://www.afdc.energy.gov/locator/stations/).  As of data provided by the DOE, last updated on May 31, 2013, there are a total of 17,860 public and private EVSE outlets in the United States (Alternative Fueling Station Counts by State – http://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/stations_counts.html).  The AFSD database is updated once a month, however, data specifically regarding EVSEs are updated twice a month.  On the Station Locator, each point the map represents a single charging station regardless of how many outlets, or plugs, are provided at that station.  Data that goes into this database is acquired from a variety of sources such as National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), fuel providers, industry media sources, and relevant trade organizations (Avbout the Alternative Fueling Station Data – http://www.afdc.energy.gov/fuels/data_methods_stations.html)  This is a great up-to-date source to gather information on Alternative Fueling Stations around the country
