Can you think of the last time you saw an electric vehicle on TV? How about a whole movie centered around one? That’s precisely what HBO’s next original movie, Clear History, focuses on. Starring Jon “Swoon” Hamm and Larry David, Clear History centers around Electron Motors’ newest electric vehicle, ‘Howard’. Side-lining the plot for now, I instead want to focus on the portrayal of Howard. It’s a silly looking car, with a weird flat back and a creepy face (headlights + bumper = face…you know what I’m talking about). It kinda looks like that plastic pedal-car you had as a kid…
So my question is – where did HBO do their research on emerging EVs? Garbage.com? TerribleInfo.net? Ok I’ll quit while I’m ahead here, but seriously? Some of the newest EVs out there are the Tesla Model S, which is basically a synonym for sexy, the Chevy Spark, which is fun and pretty high-tech, and the Ford Focus Electric which looks like (gAsp) a normal car. why did they choose to make this fictional wildly successful EV look so…silly?
This article goes more in-depth, but essentially the point is that modern media is simply disconnected from the EV market and that the public is still pretty uninformed about electric vehicles.
