With Discount Leases, Drive an EV for Practically Nothing

In an article from the Wall Street Journal, Joseph B. White details how certain US residents have been able to drive an EV for “little to no cost”. Due to hefty state incentives in Georgia, and a recently discounted lease offer, Bronson Beisel says his Nissan Leaf practically puts money in his pocket.

“It’s like a two-year test drive, free”

Take a look at the math:  The cost of a 2-year lease is $14,509.  Subtract the $7,500 tax credit and a $5,000 subsidy from the Georgia state government, and that brings the cost down to $2,000 for 24 months.  Beisel says he factors out the $200 he used to spend for gas each month, and viola! He is able to drive a Leaf for 2 years for virtually no cost except for a $15 increase in his energy bill each month.

Pretty extraordinary.
