All most people ever see of Porsche is the back end. This car is no different. But Porsche is doing it differently this time. They are coming out wheels spinnin’ in a competition to see who can go the farthest with a limited amount of energy. This hyper car is a hybrid of a traditional engine with a turbo charger, an electric motor. Something I have never heard of is the engine being a structural portion of the chassis. There are only so many ways that you can fit an engine into a car, and that is innovative! I would love to see a schematic of how it functions.
I have been looking around the web for data, and I found an awesome set of images at http://paultan.org/2014/03/10/porsche-919-hybrid-lmp1-prototype-wec-2014/. They show some of the vital organs in some of their photos. I believe Porsche intends on entering the 919 in the World Endurance Championship this April at the Silverstone circuit.Their season runs into November, and I will be covering some of their races here. I’m excited for a race to squeeze the most amount of useful work from a watt.
