Tesla’s new batteries offer grid benefits

The possibility of evening out the demand on the power grid has often been brought up in discussions of electric vehicle benefits. Now Tesla, the top name in electric vehicle production seems to be offering a new division of batteries to aid both consumers and power producers. Electricity needs to be used as soon as it is produced, unless it can be stored. The Tesla Powerwall storage system promises to store electricity that allows homes to prepare for power outages and also save money by avoiding pulling in electricity during peak grid use hours which incur extra cost.
This new economic endeavor of Tesla’s also has the less immediate benefit of growing a customer base that is ready for natural renewable electricity sources which aren’t able to produce on command like current sources. The batteries cost $3,000-$3,500 plus installation.
