EV News 11/8

The past month has been flowing full of EV news. Here is Maryland EV’s very own recap:

Fast and Autonomous: Alex Roy (previous record holder of fastest cross county trip) tagged along with Carl Reese and Deena Mastracci (previous record holders of fastest EV cross country trip) to complete, a new, faster record for driving an EV across the states. The team used a Tesla P85D to complete the trip in 57 hours and 48 minutes. The coolest part- the team used Tesla’s autopilot system to drive part of the way.

Audi R8 e-tron: Although a concept of an all-electric super car from Audi has been public since 2009, Audi just announced their plans to make the R8 e-tron for the 2016 model year. Although slower than its gas powered brother, the e-tron should only take 3.9 second to get passed 60mph and 280 miles on a charge. It will be available in the U.S. when pigs fly (i.e. the e-tron is European only).

Ultimate Battery Research: Researches at the University of Cambridge have developed a lithium-oxygen battery with a 400-mile range. While most lithium-oxygen batteries use lithium peroxide, the scientists decided a lithium hydroxide would yield better results. Though the testing is very promising, expect another decade until the technology is available for market.
