China: changing their EV policy?

China is trying to replicate California’s Electric Vehicle mandate as a push to reduce air pollution. This mandate would have automakers either starting to manufacture electric vehicles or else have to pay for energy credits. This is a transition from the current model, which has offered generous incentives for electric vehicles and hybrids in the past.

This may be a first strong push from Chinese lawmakers to help introduce electric vehicles to the country. Rather than the previous optional incentives, this policy change may spark many Chinese automakers to take a closer look at possible innovations to their current brands.
