An unconfirmed report suggests that Apple could be adding its resources to the efforts to improve electric vehicle batteries. Sources apparently connected to a coalition between Apple and auto battery manufacturer CATL (Contemporary Amperex Technology Ltd.) report that the two companies are working on a confidential project. Apple has shown interest in the auto industry recently, following last year’s announcement about the development of their self-driving car software. If reports are true, Apple could use the research gained by this project to improve the batteries in their traditional products, or gain a higher stake in the industries of electric car components. Maybe even both, but either way, the electric car industry would benefit from improvements to batteries, which have long been the limiting factor is electric vehicle production.
