New Electric Vehicle Charging Station at AACC

I recently got a motorcycle license and a bought a used motorcycle off of Craigslist. I have been looking for relatively close, easy-to-get-to places to ride to in order to build experience and confidence as a motorcyclist. This week I decided to ride to my old community college that I graduated from about three years ago. The school I went to was AACC or Anne Arundel Community College for those not familiar with it. While cruising around campus on my motorcycle (a 2009 Kawasaki KLR 650 in case you were wondering and no it’s not electric unfortunately) I noticed there was this grey box with bright green LED lights mounted to the brick wall right above the motorcycle parking spaces. I decided to hit the brakes and make a sharp left to get closer to it. As I suspected it was in fact an electric vehicle charging station! This seemed very odd to me that a school that just banned smoking on campus last summer would install such a thing, but then again perhaps one quarter of the parking lots around campus are covered by solar panels that feed electricity back into the grid. AACC is obviously trying to modernize and get with the times. Anyway, I looked at the charger more closely and found that it was a simple level-2 charger with a screen that lets the EV driver know when his or her vehicle is finished charging. I also noticed that it takes up two motorcycle parking spaces which did not seem completely right to me, but there is still plenty of motorcycle parking around campus. All in all, I am quite proud of my old community college and hope that the one charger I saw is only the beginning and there will be more to come.
