Fountain Hills HOA, Montgomery County

Fountain Hills HOA installed EV charging stations in their community parking area after a resident request. The Board established criteria for vendor selection and the condominium received a rebate from MEA reimbursing some of the installation cost.

Swan Point HOA, Howard County

The Swan Point Board surveyed residents to determine current and future EV ownership, followed by a study to analyze if and how to install EV charging. The chargers are for the exclusive use of Swan Point residents. View the Swan Point Board Resolution.

Clarksburg Condominium II, Montgomery County

This community used MEA’s EVSE Rebate Program to offset installation costs. With support from the board, they added shared-use Level 2 chargers in a shared surface lot.

State Legislation

The Electric Vehicle Recharging Equipment for Multifamily Units Act went into effect in 2021. In summary, this act states that a condominium or homeowners association cannot prohibit or unreasonably restrict the installation or use of electric vehicle recharging equipment.

The Electric Vehicle Recharging Equipment Act of 2024 went into effect in 2024. This act applies to common ownership communities, building on previous legislation passed in 2021, and requires the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) to publish related information on its common ownership community website.
